I really think this entire country is being under served by the Republican Party. As a "loyal opposition" they kind of suck.
Not just because eight years of Republican rule managed to bankrupt the country (literally). Not just because the small remnant of the Republican Party in the House and the Senate cry for bipartisanship when they really just want their kind of bipartisanship. Not just because they haven't had an idea since Ronnie Ray-Gun and haven't had a good idea since Eisenhower's Highway System.
It is because the Republican Party -- especially the House Republicans -- are an embarrassment to the idea of a loyal opposition.
Exhibit A: The party of "family values" (and David Vitter) sends out a video to celebrate their opposition to the stimulus package and totally forgets to read the lyrics of the Aerosmith song they set the video to.
First, here is Rep. Eric Cantor's glorious iMovie masterwork:
But ever wonder what "Back in the Saddle" is really about? Let's go beyond the chorus shall we?
Come easy, go easy
All right until the rising sun
I'm calling all the shots tonight
I'm like a loaded gun
Peelin' off my boots and chaps
I'm saddle sore
Four bits gets you time in the racks
I scream for more
Fools' gold out of their mines
The girls are soaking wet
Not tounge's drier than mine
I'll come when I get back
I don't know about you but that sounds like a song about drinking and fucking. Kind of confirmed when in the chorus Steven Tyler sings, "I'm riding, this snake is gonna rattle".
The conclusion is obvious. The Republican Victory song is a song about drinking and fucking. Um. So... Is drinking and fucking loose women now a Republican Family Value (insert David Vitter joke here and here and here)?
And let's not forget that when Eric Cantor isn't hunched over iMovie, listening to the Greatest Hits of the 80s, 90s, and Today, he is busily trying to make the Airwaves "decent" by outlawing "indecency". Cantor voted for he Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, saying:
CANTOR: The use of obscenity...should not and cannot be tolerated. As a parent, I share the concerns of many regarding the level of offensive television and radio programs that are transmitted into our homes. The recent violations that have occurred disgusted not only me, but damage our society.
Unless it's an Aerosmith song with a catchy chorus, aimiright?
I can't wait for the House Republicans new video after they all vote against President Obama's next piece of legislation. May I suggest Aerosmith's "Pink"? Oh, don't worry, it's totally about the color pink. No innuendos or nothing.
This, of course, isn't Rep. Cantor's first run in with the trials of filmmaking and let's hope it is not his last.
